Óttarsstaðir & Flekkuvík – wild ocean diving on Reykjanes

Two Atlantic dives in one day, the second at one of the most remote sites we dive.

Spend a day on the wild coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula with two ocean dives: the kelp forest beneath the lava coast at Óttarsstaðir, then Flekkuvík, a remote site reached by 4×4, where a steep slope drops through swaying kelp towards 30 metres.

This is the tour for divers who want raw, untouched coastline and a site few visitors ever see. Flekkuvík is only dived when the sea is calm: we confirm it the day before, and if the sea is too rough we dive the sheltered fissure Bjarnagjá instead.

85,000 ISK per person · 2 guided dives · Full day, up to 8 hours · Pickup in the capital area

All dive equipment, including the dry suit, is included.

Dive 1 – Óttarsstaðir: the kelp forest beneath the lava coast

We start at Óttarsstaðir, where the lava fields meet the Atlantic just outside Hafnarfjörður. You walk into the sea from the shore over lava rock and into a kelp forest that slopes gently down to around 18 metres, with crabs, sea urchins, starfish and small fish among the rocks.

It is a relaxed first dive before the wilder site of the day. Read more about the Óttarsstaðir dive site.

Dive 2 – Flekkuvík: a remote slope towards 30 metres

Then we drive the 4×4 track to Flekkuvík, one of the more elusive dives we offer. A steep slope drops through a kelp forest that sways in the current, with schools of fish weaving between the fronds, down to a maximum of 30 metres. How deep we go depends on your certification and experience.

It is a challenging dive in raw, untouched surroundings, far from the crowds. Read more about the Flekkuvík dive site.
