Flekkuvík – Wild, Remote Ocean Diving on the Reykjanes Peninsula
Flekkuvík is a remote ocean dive site on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland, and one of the more elusive dives we offer. Reaching it requires a 4×4 vehicle and the dive is entirely weather dependent, so it is not a site you can simply turn up at. Once there, a steep slope drops to 30 metres through a kelp forest that sways in the current, with schools of fish weaving between the fronds.
It is a challenging dive, but a rewarding one, and it suits adventurous divers who want raw, untouched coastline.
The dive
Getting there is part of the adventure. Flekkuvík sits well off the beaten path, it can only be reached by 4×4, and we only go when the forecast allows. Transport is included.
In the water the seabed falls away in a steep slope down to 30 metres, a very different profile from the gentle slope at Óttarsstaðir. Kelp grows along the slope and moves with the current, and fish schools weave in and out of the fronds as you descend. The swaying kelp and the schools of fish are what make it feel like a scene from a film rather than an ordinary dive.

What you will see
The kelp forest is the heart of the dive. It covers the slope and sways with the water, and the longer you spend in it, the more movement you notice, with schools of fish threading through the stalks around you. The feeling is of a wild place that few divers ever reach, which is exactly the point of Flekkuvík.
Flekkuvík is raw and untouched, and it stays on our list for divers who want more than the usual.
Who is it for
In good conditions Flekkuvík suits any certified diver with a dry suit certification. It is a natural pick for adventurous divers who are happy to travel for a dive and want raw, untouched nature and a site far from the crowds.
