Terms and cancellation

Last updated 16 October 2026

These terms apply to every dive tour, course and other service you book with Icedive, whether on icedive.is, by email or through one of our partners. In short: your booking is confirmed by email, you pay after we confirm, you can cancel free of charge until 7 days before departure, and if we cancel because of conditions you choose between a new date and a full refund.

Who you are dealing with

Icedive is the trading name of Sport- og Tækniköfunarskóli Íslands ehf., kennitala 540404-2750, Einiberg 15, 221 Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. Phone +354 663 2610, email icedive@icedive.is. We are a licensed day tour provider, licence 2026-089 from the Icelandic Tourist Board, and an SDI/TDI dive centre.

Booking and confirmation

A booking sent through the booking form, by email or through a partner is a request until we confirm it. We check the date and reply by email, normally within one working day. The contract is made when you receive our confirmation with the tour or course, the date, the number of people and the price. Before that we may decline a request, for example when a date is full or the season does not allow the dive.

  • Minimum numbers: day tours depart with at least two paying divers. If a departure does not reach the minimum, we offer you another date or a private tour. You may also choose a full refund.
  • Private tours: a private tour is one diver with their own guide. It is priced on request, and we send you the price before we confirm.
  • Partner links: if you came to us through a partner’s link, the discount shown in your confirmation applies. These terms apply all the same.
  • Diver details: before the day we ask you by email for a few details about each diver or student, such as certification and dry suit size, so we can prepare the right equipment.

Prices and payment

Prices are in Icelandic krónur (ISK) per person and include VAT. What each price includes, such as equipment, the guide, the national park fee and pickup in the capital area, is listed on the tour or course page. The price in your confirmation stands even if the price on the website changes later. Discounts for bringing your own dry suit or driving to the dive site yourself are listed on the Dive Tours page and must be asked for when you book.

Nothing is paid when you send a booking. After we confirm, we send you payment instructions: a bank transfer or a payment link. Payment is due before the tour or course starts, by the date given in the confirmation. If a confirmed booking is not paid by that date, we remind you once and may then cancel it. Refunds under these terms are paid within 14 days to the account or card you paid from.

Cancelling your booking

You can cancel by email to icedive@icedive.is. A cancellation counts from the moment we receive it, and time limits are counted to the scheduled departure, your pickup time, in Iceland time.

  • 7 days or more before departure: full refund.
  • Between 7 days and 24 hours before departure: 70% refund. We keep 30% to cover the guide, equipment and transport we have reserved.
  • Less than 24 hours before departure, or no-show: no refund.
  • Changing the date: until 7 days before departure you can move your booking to another available date free of charge. Inside 7 days, a change counts as a cancellation and a new booking.
  • Fewer people: reducing the number of divers or students is a cancellation for those places and follows the same time limits.
  • No-show: not being at the agreed pickup place on time, not being able to show the required certification, or arriving unfit to dive, for example after alcohol, counts as a no-show.
  • Courses: the time limits count to the first day of the course. If we have already issued your online learning materials, their cost is deducted from any refund.
  • Multi-day tours, custom itineraries and research or commercial work: the cancellation terms are set out in your written quote and confirmation. Where a trip includes overnight accommodation, the Icelandic Package Travel Act, nr. 95/2018, also applies.

Dive tours and courses on a fixed date are leisure services, so the 14-day right of withdrawal for online purchases does not apply to them (Act on consumer contracts, nr. 16/2016, article 18, item l). These cancellation terms apply instead.

If we cancel or change the plan

Diving in Iceland depends on the weather and the water. We decide on the day whether a dive is safe. If we have to cancel a tour or a course day because of weather, water conditions, safety or something on our side, such as illness or a vehicle breakdown, you choose between a new date and a full refund of what you have paid. We are not liable for other costs, such as flights, hotels or transfers.

  • A different site: choosing another dive site because of conditions, for example Bjarnagjá when the sea is rough, is part of the tour and not a cancellation. We may also change the order of the dives and the pickup time, and we tell you as early as we can.
  • A day cut short: if conditions force us to stop after the first dive of a two-dive day, we agree a solution with you: a new date for the missed dive or a partial refund.

Requirements for diving with us

To keep diving safe for everyone, you must meet the requirements on the tour or course page. For most of our dives that means:

  • an Open Water certification or equivalent, and for dry suit dives a dry suit certification or at least 10 logged dry suit dives confirmed by an instructor. Bring your certification card; we need to see it before the dive;
  • a minimum age of 17;
  • good health and fitness for cold-water diving. Every diver completes the diver medical statement and signs the liability release on paper before the dive. If the statement shows a condition that needs a doctor’s approval, you need a physician’s signature before you can dive;
  • no alcohol or drugs before diving, and enough rest. Do not plan a flight within 18 hours after diving.

Our guides and instructors decide whether you can dive on the day, and their decision is final. If you cannot dive because you do not meet these requirements, it counts as a cancellation on the day with no refund. Follow your guide’s instructions in and out of the water.

Equipment and your belongings

We lend you the equipment you need for the dive. Treat it as you would your own and tell us at once if something is damaged or lost. We may charge the repair or replacement cost of equipment damaged through carelessness, but never for normal wear. Equipment you bring yourself is your responsibility. Please leave valuables at your hotel; we are not responsible for belongings left in our vehicles or at the site.

We sometimes take photos and video during tours and courses. We ask you before we use a picture of you on our website or social media.

Insurance and liability

Icedive holds the liability insurance required of a licensed tour operator in Iceland. We recommend that every diver has dive accident insurance, such as DAN, and travel insurance that covers scuba diving. Our liability for your injury or loss follows Icelandic law. Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under Icelandic law.

Complaints and disputes

If something is not right, tell your guide or instructor on the day so we can fix it, or email us as soon as you can afterwards. We answer every complaint. Icelandic law applies to these terms. A consumer who cannot settle a dispute with us can refer it to the Icelandic appeals committee for goods and services (Kærunefnd vöru- og þjónustukaupa) or to the Icelandic courts.

Changes to these terms

The version of these terms published on the day we confirm your booking applies to it. We update this page and the date at the top when something changes. How we handle your personal data is explained on our privacy page.
