Diving Across Iceland – A 10-Day Guided Diving Tour
Dive beside underwater geothermal chimneys, beneath towering seabird cliffs and into crystal-clear freshwater fissures. Discover a coastal wreck in a remote fjord, then follow Iceland’s changing landscapes from volcanic shores to glacier lagoons.
This privately guided tour brings together the hydrothermal chimneys of Eyjafjörður, the island-filled waters of Breiðafjörður, dramatic Drangey and the freshwater worlds of Davíðsgjá and Silfra.
Above the surface, the journey is just as memorable. Explore steaming geothermal landscapes, feel the power of Dettifoss and watch icebergs drift across Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.
Icedive arranges the diving, accommodation, breakfast, ground transport and boat logistics, bringing the whole journey together in one tailored package.

The Experience
Iceland’s underwater landscapes are as varied as the country itself. Over ten days, you will experience volcanic freshwater sites, Atlantic coastal waters, active hydrothermal chimneys and a wreck tucked into a quiet East Fjord.
The route is designed around both diving and discovery. Most diving days include one dive, with time for equipment preparation and onward travel. In Eyjafjörður, two dedicated diving days allow a closer look at one of Iceland’s most remarkable underwater environments.
Two sightseeing and travel days connect the regions, making the landscapes between dives part of the experience.
Your 10-Day Itinerary
Day 1 – Reykjavík Capital Region
1 guided dive
Your underwater journey begins close to Reykjavík, with an orientation dive at Kleifarvatn or another suitable local site.
Set against the volcanic landscapes surrounding the capital region, this first dive introduces you to Iceland’s waters and gives you time to settle in with your equipment and guides before the journey continues.
Day 2 – West Iceland
1 guided shore dive
Head west to Snæfellsnes, where volcanic landscapes meet the Atlantic. A guided shore dive introduces you to the peninsula’s coastal waters, with the location selected according to conditions.
Above the surface, fishing villages, rugged shores and mountain scenery set the scene for the next stage of your tour.
Day 3 – Breiðafjörður
1 guided boat dive
Depart from Stykkishólmur and venture into Breiðafjörður, a bay scattered with islands, islets and skerries.
A guided boat dive takes you below the surface of this intricate coastal landscape. The boat journey adds another perspective, revealing the islands and open water that make this part of Iceland so distinctive.
Day 4 – Drangey
1 guided boat dive
Rising steeply from Skagafjörður, Drangey provides a spectacular setting for a boat dive. Its towering cliffs are home to abundant seabird life during the breeding season, bringing movement and sound to the island above you.
Keep an eye on the water as well as the cliffs: with a little luck, you may spot puffins diving beneath the surface in search of food.
The dive is planned around tides, sea conditions and vessel availability.
Days 5–6 – Eyjafjörður
2 guided dives per day
Discover one of the tour’s most extraordinary underwater landscapes: the hydrothermal chimneys of Eyjafjörður.
At Strýtan, a towering mineral chimney rises from the seabed, releasing naturally heated freshwater into the cold surrounding sea. Minerals form as these waters meet, gradually building the structure you see today. Diving beside an active chimney offers a rare glimpse of geology unfolding underwater.
Across these two days, four guided dives are planned in Eyjafjörður, with Strýtan and Arnarnesstrýtur among the intended highlights. The order of visits is decided according to weather, sea conditions and local arrangements.
These are dedicated diving days, with time for boat travel, preparation and surface intervals between dives.
Day 7 – Northeast Iceland to the East Fjords
Travel and sightseeing day
Trade underwater exploration for a journey through Iceland’s volcanic landscapes.
Explore the Mývatn area and the steaming ground of Námaskarð, where bubbling mud pools and sulphurous vents reveal the heat beneath the surface. Visit Dettifoss, whose rushing water and canyon scenery provide a dramatic contrast to the geothermal terrain.
Continue towards East Iceland, with selected stops along the way. No diving is scheduled today, allowing time to experience the landscapes that connect the north and east.
Day 8 – Mjóifjörður
1 guided shore dive
In the quiet surroundings of Mjóifjörður, discover a wreck lying just off the shoreline.
This straightforward shore dive brings you close to a piece of maritime history, framed by the steep mountains of the fjord. With no boat needed, the wreck offers a rewarding contrast to the tour’s island and geothermal dives.
Day 9 – South Coast to Laugarvatn
Travel and sightseeing day
Follow the South Coast through a landscape shaped by glaciers, volcanoes and the Atlantic.
At Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, watch icebergs drift across the water beneath the glacier’s edge. Continue past sweeping plains, mountain scenery and changing coastal views, stopping at selected beautiful locations along the route to Laugarvatn.
No diving is scheduled today. This full travel day gives you time to enjoy one of the most scenic stretches of the tour.
Day 10 – Davíðsgjá and Silfra
2 guided freshwater dives
End your journey in the clear freshwater of Þingvellir National Park, with dives at Davíðsgjá and Silfra.
Explore submerged rock formations and fissures where clear water reveals the landscape around you in striking detail. After days of coastal waters, fjords and geothermal chimneys, these two freshwater dives provide a memorable finale.
Return to Reykjavík after the dives, completing your journey across Iceland above and below the surface.
